ELLINGTON-SOMERS, CT — Somers has posted an update on the long-stalled effort to redevelop the Somersville Mill site, early voting begins Oct. 19 at Somers Town Hall and several Ellington boards and commissions meet this week.

1. Somersville Mill: Town Seeks New Developer, Cleanup Money
When: Update posted Sept. 25
Where: Former Somersville Mill site, 40 Maple St., Somers
What to know: WINN Companies, which had proposed an 80- to 100-unit, four-story mixed-income building on the 5.38-acre town-owned mill site along the Scantic River, withdrew in 2026, according to an update from Public Works and Emergency Management Director Todd Rolland. Town leaders began preliminary talks with a new prospective development partner in June, and in September asked state officials for money to finish the environmental cleanup. A conditional $995,000 state remediation grant had been tied to the earlier developer's housing financing.

2. Early Voting Starts Oct. 19 At Somers Town Hall
When: Early voting Oct. 19-Nov. 1; Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3
Where: Somers Town Hall, 600 Main St.
What to know: Early voting and same-day registration run Oct. 19 through Nov. 1 in the Lower Conference Room at Somers Town Hall, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with hours extended to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 27 and Oct. 29, according to the town clerk's election warning. On Election Day, Somers votes in one place, the Town Hall Auditorium, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

3. Ellington Boards Meet Tuesday And Wednesday
When: Tuesday, Oct. 13: Permanent Building Committee 6 p.m.; Conservation Commission and Library Board 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14: Economic Development and Parks and Recreation commissions, 7 p.m.
Where: Nicholas J. DiCorleto Jr. Meeting Hall, 55 Main St., Ellington
What to know: Several Ellington boards are scheduled to meet, according to the town calendar: the Permanent Building Committee at the DiCorleto Meeting Hall, the Conservation Commission at the Town Hall Annex (57 Main St.), the Library Board at Hall Memorial Library (93 Main St.), the Economic Development Commission at the Town Hall Annex and the Parks and Recreation Commission at 31 Arbor Way. None had posted an agenda as of Thursday, Oct. 8.

What to know: The Northern Connecticut Land Trust leads a walk on the Andrew Webster Knapp property, according to the Ellington town calendar.

5. Town Offices Closed Monday
When: Monday, Oct. 12
Where: Ellington Town Hall, 55 Main St.
What to know: Ellington town offices are closed Monday, Oct. 12, for Columbus Day, with no delay in trash collection that week, according to the town. Somers town offices are also closed Monday, according to the Somers calendar.
