Gather your friends and family for a weekend filled with holiday shopping and history. Four great events will offer opportunities to discover gifts, find seasonal bargains and experience the American Revolution up close.
The festivities begin Friday, November 6, with the Holiday Boutique and Nellie's Mercantile at the Nellie McKnight Museum, the Farmhouse Fair at Ellington Congregational Church and the Holiday Bazaar at St. Luke Church. All three shopping events will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Saturday also brings The British Are Coming, a living history event at the museum from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Holiday Boutique and Nellie's Mercantile
Kick off the holiday shopping season at the Nellie McKnight Museum, 70 Main Street. The Holiday Boutique features previously loved holiday decorations and seasonal home goods at affordable prices, perfect for adding festive touches to your home while giving special treasures a second life. Nellie's Mercantile offers unique gifts, local artisan wares and Ellington-themed items. Come early for the best selection and enjoy shopping that supports the preservation and sharing of Ellington's history.
Farmhouse Fair at Ellington Congregational Church
Just next door at 72 Main Street, the Farmhouse Fair offers the warmth and creativity of a traditional church fair. Handmade offerings include knitted and crocheted goods, fabric creations, hand crafted brooms, items for kids, pets and dolls, Christmas decorations, gift items and more. The Farmhouse Cafe will be offering dinner on Friday and breakfast and lunch on Saturday.
Holiday Bazaar at St. Luke Church
Continue your shopping at St. Luke Church, 141 Maple Street, where the annual Christmas Bazaar brings together crafts, a country store, attic treasures, vendors, and baked goods. Families can enjoy free pictures with Santa and children's activities including face painting while raffles add to the excitement. Food will also be available for purchase, making this a convenient stop for a bite to eat during your holiday shopping rounds.
The British Are Coming at the Nellie McKnight Museum
On Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the museum grounds become the setting for a Revolutionary War adventure. Reenactors from the 54th Regiment of Foot and Ye Olde Lebanon Militia will bring British and Colonial camps to life with demonstrations, dramatic encounters and hands-on activities.
Children can join military drills, a mock battle, a spy game and more, while visitors explore camp life and watch British Army field hospital demonstrations at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. An 18th-century soccer match and a 2 p.m. mock trial of suspected deserters add to the day's activities. Advance registration is encouraged for kids activities with limited space. Register online
