ELLINGTON, CT —A rowboat was found adrift on Crystal Lake in Ellington Monday morning and authorities are guessing it broke loose from its lines during overnight foul weather.

Am image of the dark green craft was posted at about 9:30 a.m. Monday on the Crystal Lake Fire Department's Facebook page.

Authorities received a call about a boat in the lake with life jacket and equipment on board, but no occupant, fire officials said. The boat was located "a few hundred feet" from the bank on the East Shore side of the lake, according to the social media post.

"After a check of the area by the fire department and notification of the Connecticut State Police there was no evidence of any person missing and no one found in the water," according to the post.

Fire officials said they believe the boat broke away from a dock during a thunderstorm overnight. It was full of personal flotation devices, had two oars in their locks and no registration number.
