Veterans Coffeehouse to Feature Retired U.S. Army Colonel Bill Werner

Somers, CT – The Somers Department of Veterans Affairs proudly welcomes Colonel (Ret.) Bill Werner as guest speaker for the upcoming Veterans Coffeehouse on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Somers Town Hall Auditorium, 600 Main Street, Somers, CT.

Colonel Werner will present “U.S. Military Mortuary Affairs: Past and Present,” a compelling overview of the historical and modern-day protocols used to honor and repatriate America’s fallen heroes. Drawing from over 30 years of service in the U.S. Army Reserves — including deployments to the Pacific and a pivotal role at Dover Port Mortuary — Werner’s presentation offers a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into this sacred mission.

In his civilian life, Colonel Werner is a licensed funeral director and embalmer with the Gilman Family of Funeral Homes and a longtime educator. His experiences both in uniform and as a funeral professional give him a unique perspective on military honors, family grief support, and national remembrance.

The Somers Veterans Coffeehouse is open to all veterans, military family members, and their guests. Complimentary coffee and snacks will be provided.

Don’t forget to bring some cash - our custom coffee mugs and air fresheners will be available for purchase to help support future events!
