Somers Veterans Coffeehouse Welcomes House of Heroes CT Executive Director Carol May

The Somers Department of Veterans Affairs will host its next Somers Veterans Coffeehouse on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Somers Town Hall Auditorium, 600 Main Street, Somers, CT. All veterans are invited to attend and are welcome to bring a guest. Complimentary beverages and snacks will be provided.

This month’s Coffeehouse will feature Carol May, Executive Director of House of Heroes Connecticut (HOHCT), a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring and serving military veterans through essential home repairs that help them remain safe and independent. Carol leads the organization founded by her late husband, William “Bill” May, a 24-year U.S. Army veteran and Black Hawk helicopter pilot who established HOHCT in 2012. Since taking the helm in 2019, Carol has continued to expand the organization’s impact, with more than 325 veteran homes repaired statewide and a record 39 homes expected to be completed in 2026.

Carol brings a unique blend of compassion, leadership, and lived experience to her role. A retired elementary school teacher of 40 years, she is also a proud mother of three and grandmother of seven. She resides in Woodbridge, Connecticut, and remains deeply committed to carrying forward her husband’s legacy of service.

The Somers Veterans Coffeehouse is a community initiative sponsored by the Somers Department of Veterans Affairs, led by Director David McCaffrey and Deputy Director Sherri Marquis, both retired U.S. Navy veterans and accredited Veterans Service Officers. The Coffeehouse provides a welcoming space for veterans to connect, learn, and engage with resources that support their well‑being.
