Somers Launches “REMEMBER ME” Campaign to Place Wreaths on 2,200 Veterans Graves

The Somers Department of Veterans Affairs is launching its 2026 Wreaths Across America campaign with an ambitious community goal: help provide a remembrance wreath for each of approximately 2,200 veteran graves across Somers’ Center, North, and West Cemeteries.

This year’s national Wreaths Across America theme, “Remember Me,” emphasizes that behind every marker is an individual — a name, a family, a story, and a legacy of service. Somers is asking residents, businesses, churches, civic organizations, veterans’ groups, schools, youth organizations, and friends throughout the region to take part.

Each veterans’ wreath is sponsored for $17. Community members may sponsor one wreath or many, volunteer to help with wreath placement, and share the Somers Wreaths Across America page with others. Sponsorships intended for the 2026 ceremony should be completed by December 1, 2026.

The need is significant, yet we understand our economy is struggling and everyone has competing priorities, underscoring why the Department is just beginning its 2026 campaign, asking the community to participate now.

National Wreaths Across America Day will be observed in Somers on Saturday, December 19, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Somers Center Cemetery, 81 Battle Street, Somers, CT 06071. Wreath placement will begin immediately after the ceremony. Volunteers are encouraged to say the veteran’s name aloud and thank them for their military service as each wreath is placed — a simple act that helps ensure the person and the service behind the marker are remembered.
