Campus Notes - Ellington, Somers College Students

ELLINGTON-SOMERS, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Assumption College, Worcester MA

• The Assumption College Student Government Association (SGA) has announced that Tesia Burzynski, of Somers, has been elected to and is serving as Vice President for Financial Affairs during the 2019-20 academic year. The Student Government Association is the governing student body on campus, representing all undergraduate students. The purpose of SGA is to advocate for students and give voice to their opinions to enhance students' experience and encourage their participation in extra-curricular activities. Their work is guided by a constitution and by-laws.

Bates College, Lewiston ME

• Maggie O'Shea of Somers, a senior at Bates College, spent the summer completing an environmental internship with the Lopez Community Land Trust. O'Shea was advised by Susannah Dunlap. O'Shea, the child of Drs. Michael and Donna O'Shea and a 2016 graduate of Suffield Academy, was among more than 240 students who received support from Bates in order to accept summer work that facilitated professional exploration and reflection about fulfilling future career paths. O'Shea's internship was funded through the Moses Feldman Family Foundation.

Goodwin College, East Hartford CT

• Goodwin College announces 627 students achieved Dean's list status for the summer 2019 session. Dean's List inclusion requires a student to earn a minimum 3.5 GPA, the equivalent of an A- average, during a given academic session. The student must also be enrolled in a minimum of six academic credits to qualify. Students from Ellington who made the Dean's List were Eyleen Blier, Brittany Hey, Chandler Myers and Kierra Shain. Somers honorees were Serra Czapla and Stephanie Pettee.
