Cell Use + U-Turn = Car in Ditch in Ellington: Report

The car crashed after stopping at a stop sign, state police said.

ELLINGTON, CT — A car wound up in a ditch on Friday evening after its driver failed to negotiate a U-turn, state police said.

The car crashed at 5:17 p.m. where Shenipsit and Mountain streets meet, state police said.

A driver who admitted to be using a cell phone, stopped at a stop sign, but then hit a wooden post while trying to make a U-turn and crashed into a ditch on the Shenipsit side of the intersection, state police said.

The driver was not injured, state police said.
