Charges Altered in Dental Patient Death Case Involving Ellington Woman

The dentist will have an opportunity to apply for accelerated rehabilitation.

Charges have been changed in a police case against an Enfield-based dentist who had a patient die while under his care, the Hartford Courant reports.

Dr. Rashmi Patel, 45, a Suffield resident who had operated a dental practice on Hazard Ave. in Enfield, was originally charged with criminally negligent homicide and tampering with evidence after a patient, Judith Gan, 64, of Ellington, died following a lengthy extraction procedure of 20 teeth in Feb. 2014.

New documents filed by a prosecuting attorney Monday in Hartford Superior Court are sustaining the tampering with evidence charge against Patel, but dropping the criminally negligent homicide charge, the paper reported.
