Bentley University, Waltham MA

  • Tim Lynch, a 2019 graduate of Somers High School and a freshman member of the Bentley University lacrosse team, was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2019 semester. Dean's List honorees have a GPA of 3.3 or higher.

  • Katherine O'Connell, a member of the Colgate University Class of 2023, has earned the fall 2019 Dean's Award for Academic Excellence. O'Connell is a graduate of Ellington High School. Students who receive a term grade point average of 3.3 or higher while completing at least three courses earn the fall 2019 Dean's Award for Academic Excellence.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • Eastern Connecticut State University recently inducted 30 psychology students into Psi Chi, the international honors society for psychology. Students are invited into the society if they are a declared major or minor in psychology, have at least 12 credits of psychology coursework and a GPA of 3.5 or higher in psychology and an overall GPA of 3.0. Among the recent inductees were Caitlin Burke of Ellington, a senior who majors in Psychology, and Christine Montanari of Ellington, a junior who majors in Psychology.
  • Eastern Connecticut State University's Department of Health Sciences inducted new students into the Phi Theta Delta national honor society, awarded students for various distinctions and recognized students who have stepped up as teaching assistants and peer mentors. Among the students recognized was Alyssa Powers, a senior from Ellington who majors in Health Sciences. Powers was recognized for being a teaching assistant in the course "Biology for Health Sciences." She was also given a certificate of appreciation for being a peer mentor and inducted into the health sciences honor society. To be inducted into Phi Theta Delta, a student must have a 3.5 GPA and be a junior or senior with a minimum of 16 credits earned in the health sciences field. Students must then submit an application to be reviewed by a selection committee consisting of health sciences faculty members who base their decisions on the student's work and volunteering experiences, extracurricular activities, community engagement and future plans in the health field.
  • Eight Eastern Connecticut State University students were recently inducted into Alpha Mu Alpha (AMA), the national honor society for the field of marketing. Among the inductees was Ryan Elgin of Somers, a senior who majors in Business Administration.

Western New England University, Springfield MA

  • Dr. Sharianne Walker, Dean of the College of Business, announced that Joseph S. Bailey, of Somers, was one of 35 students inducted into the Western New England University chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society of AACSB-accredited business schools worldwide. Bailey is majoring in General Business. Eligible sophomores, juniors, and seniors comprise the top 10 percent of their respective classes and eligible graduate students are among the top 20 percent of their respective graduate programs.
