College Degrees Earned By Students From Ellington and Somers

Many Ellington and Somers college students earned their degrees at the conclusion of the spring 2020 semester.

Assumption College, Worcester MA

  • On May 10, Assumption conferred the degrees of 522 individuals who completed their studies at the culmination of the 2019-20 academic year. Bachelor's degree recipients from Somers were Tesia Burzynski, Global Studies and Management; Anna Conley, Health Sciences; Spencer Marocchini, Economics; and Trevor Wilcox, Accounting.

Bucknell University, Lewisburg PA

  • Bucknell University presented degrees to over 800 graduates at Commencement on May 17, 2020. Among the graduates was Emma Dolen, from Ellington, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.

College of the Holy Cross, Worcester MA

  • Mary Baumann, of Somers, received a bachelor of arts degree Magna Cum Laude from College of the Holy Cross on May 22, 2020. Because of the ongoing pandemic, Holy Cross hosted a virtual celebration for its Class of 2020, featuring a special message from Holy Cross alumnus Dr. Anthony Fauci '62, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Baumann was among 707 students who received electronic diplomas as part of the event. The virtual celebrations will be followed by an in-person commencement ceremony for the class of 2020 to be held in spring 2021.

  • Haley Jennings is one of 449 seniors to earn their degree from Grove City College on May 16, 2020. Jennings, from Somers, earned a Bachelor of Science degree Biology and Gen Sci Sec Educ Certification.

Paul Smith's College, Paul Smiths NY

  • Jonathan Joaquin of Somers graduated from Paul Smith's College in May 2020. Joaquin earned a bachelor's degree in human health and the environment from Paul Smith's, located in the Adirondacks in upstate New York.

University of New Hampshire, Durham NH

  • Three students from Ellington and three from Somers graduated from the University of New Hampshire in Durham Saturday, May 16, 2020, during a virtual celebration. They are Erin Wardrop of Ellington, Magna Cum Laude with a BS degree in Social Work; Kallie Dougherty of Ellington, BS degree in BusAdm:Marketing; Jay Skorulski of Ellington, Cum Laude with a BS degree in BusAdm:Finance; Sydney Quint of Somers, Magna Cum Laude with a BA degree in Sociology; Kelsey Kalish of Somers, BS degree in HumanDevelopmnt&Family Studies; and Danielle Hollister of Somers, Magna Cum Laude with a BS degree in Nursing.

University of Scranton, Scranton PA

  • Two Ellington residents were among the more than 875 candidates whose bachelor's degrees were conferred at The University of Scranton's virtual undergraduate celebration ceremony on May 31. Madeline M. Meaney earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry, cell, molecular biology, and Erin R. Meaney earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Madeline was among the 30 members of The University of Scranton's class of 2020 graduated from its undergraduate Honors Program, which is one of the Jesuit university's programs of excellence. Students in the Honors Program pursue a rigorous education that stresses independent work through close engagement with professors and other honors students, including the preparation, presentation and defense of a research or creative project during their senior year.
