Cops: Strange Parking Maneuver Leads to DUI Charge in Somers

A passing motorist thought is was a crash.

SOMERS, CT - A Massachusetts Man wound up with a DUI charge after a passing motorist noticed his car weirdly parked on the side of George Wood Road and alerted state police early Saturday morning.

The call came into state police at 2:13 a.m. Saturday. The motorist thought the car had been in a crash. When a state trooper arrived, he noticed the car was parked on the shoulder, but perpendicular to the road, according to an arrest report.

The driver, 56-year-old Brian Benoit of 19 Bayberry Road, Hampden, MA, had not crashed his car, but appeared drunk, according to an arrest report. He then failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving under the influence, state police said.
