The 9th Annual Penguin Plunge hosted by the South Windsor Police Department for Special Olympics Connecticut

The 9th Annual Penguin Plunge at Crystal Lake where all proceeds went to help the Special Olympics of Connecticut. The event was hosted by the South Windsor Police Department in conjunction with Law Enforcement Torch Run. It was a very special event attended by over 200 people where temperatures hovered in the mid 40's. 8 Teams participated by jumping into the 50 degree water at Crystal Lake and each team had their own sponsors. First team to brave the frigid waters were the South Windsor Police team with their acrobatic entrance. 2nd team from Cigna and raised the most money of all the teams with approx. $8,300. A great time was had by all, for the participants or those that watched from the beach. In all nearly $20,000 was raised for such a great cause. I attended one of the very first Special Olympics back in the early 70's held in New Haven and to see the Olympians compete is truly inspiring.
