Doorbell Cam Captures Image of Would-Be Thief in Ellington

Troopers are now looking for the Ellington suspect.

ELLINGTON, CT — A doorbell cam captured an image of a would-be thief on an Ellington doorstep and state police are now looking for him.

On Sunday at about 7 p.m., the Ellington Resident Trooper's Office was dispatched to Ellington Avenue and Wapping Wood Road to investigate reports of a black male attempting to enter homes, state police said.

Based on video camera footage obtained from a doorbell camera and floodlight camera, the suspect seems to be a black male, approximately 20-to-30 years old, with a goatee, state police said. He was wearing a Dallas Cowboys t-shirt, police said.

The suspect attempted to break into homes through unlocked doors, state police said.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Ellington Resident Troopers' Office at 860-875-1522 or text TIP 711 and the information to 274637. All calls/texts will remain confidential, state police said.

The incident remains under investigation, state police said.

"As a home security measure, please ensure you lock all entry doors and that alarms are activated," state police said.
