Drivers Have Less-Than-Chipper Day in Ellington
The chipper came loose from the truck towing it, state police said.

ELLINGTON, CT — A wood chipper broke loose from its trailer hitch and wreaked havoc on a busy section of West Road, state police said.
The incident took place on Wednesday at 8:54 a.m., in Ellington, just past the Vernon line, state police said.
A 2013 Toyota Corolla driven by George Clinton Abercrombie, 33, of Vernon was heading west, state police said. Coming east was a 2007 GMC truck owned by Ellington-based Gary Hyjek Landscaping — with the wood chipper in tow — driven by Joseph Adkins, 35, of Vernon, state police said.

The chipper came loose, rolled into the westbound lane and hit the Corolla, state police said.
No one was injured, state police said.
