The efforts to assist Somers High School Jr. Alex Coverdill in his quest to represent his country on the USA under 18 rowing team are on going. Earlier it was announced that a fund raiser entitled Summer Palooza was scheduled for June 7, 2014 at 6:30 pm at the Somers Knights of Columbus. This event features appetizers, full dinner, DJ, dancing a karaoke competition and multiple raffles. Tickets for this event can be obtained by contacting Rich Tynan @ 860-280-6505 and they are $20.
In addition Patriotic chocolate lollipops will be sold in front of Kaymans Liquors in Somers from 10 am-2pm this Saturday 5-24-14. Kaymans is located in the Geislers Plaza on RT 83 in Somers. These pops come in white, milk and dark chocolate and they have a patriotic theme to commemorate both memorial day as well as Coverdill’s attempt to represent his country on team USA, cost for these lollipops is $1.
When asked for a progress report on Summer Palooza Tynan indicated that about half of the tickets have been purchased with Two weeks to go before the event. In addition Tynan reports that many members of the local community have sent in cash donations to assist Coverdill with the expenses associated with the rowing Team. All proceeds from all funding efforts will go directly to fund Coverdill’s summer competitions.
