ELLINGTON, CT β€” Democrat Michael B. Madru, 36, is running for First Selectman in Ellington.

Occupation: Operations Manager

Family:
Michael B. Madru, 36
Allison M. Madru, 35
Max Madru, 4
Finn Madru, 1

My wife, Ally, is a teacher in the Ellington Public School system at Center School. We quickly fell in love with Ellington through connections Ally made in the school system and community. We regularly attended the Farmer's Market, Firemen's Carnival, Trail of Treats, and Touch-a-Truck events. We moved to Ellington without hesitation, knowing it was a place we could call home and raise our growing family.

My oldest son, Max, started school at Windermere Elementary this fall in Pre-K. My youngest son, Finn, attends daycare in town.

The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:

The single most pressing issue facing our town is the lack of a strategic long term vision for our community, and this is what I intend to do about:

- Establish on-going sound fiscal management

- Appropriately plan for large expenditures of taxpayer dollars

- Budget and plan for our collective immediate, mid-term, and long term goals

- Ensure we are spending with strategic foresight

- Differing from current elected officials, and take advantage of and utilize state General Obligation bonds for the betterment of our community

Critical differences between me and my opponents:

I have worked in the insurance industry for the last 15 years. I bring with me a wealth of financial and operational management knowledge and expertise. I graduated in 2007 with a degree in Finance from Western New England College (now Western New England University). I am confident that my professional experience and knowledge is well suited to take on the role of First Selectman and to help navigate Ellington towards a successful and financially secure future.

Accomplishments:

- Demonstrated history of managing multiple teams and business units across several complex and heavily government regulated projects

- Established a reputation for reducing operating expense through process improvement and leveraging existing efficiencies

- Prove history of driving process improvement and functional business solutions

- Partnered in the creation of an on-going mentoring and networking program

- Championed the screening, bidding, and on-boarding of new external business partners, and ensuring they brought value to our organization

Other issues:

- Ensuring our town finances are sound and positioning us for a successful future as a community

- Leveraging my financial expertise and knowledge to help save taxpayers money where possible

- Supporting the agricultural and farming industry that Ellington was built on

- Fighting for honest and transparency within our town government and town hall

- Supporting our local school system and helping it become one of the best in the state

- Looking into additional public safety and policing solutions to help keep Ellington safe

- Ensuring resident concerns and issues are not only heard and acknowledged and but acted on in a way that helps make Ellington a better place for all

What else would you like voters to know about you?

I am passionate about giving back to my community. I am not a lifelong Ellington resident, but my wife and I chose Ellington because we knew it was a place we wanted to call home and raise our family. I want all residents to feel confident that the First Selectman and all of our other elected officials are acting with the best interests of Ellington and our residents in mind. I want residents to feel comfortable coming to any elected official with issues and concerns, and know that they will not only be addressed, but that we will work collectively as a team, regardless of political affiliation, to a build a stronger, safer, and more welcoming Ellington for all.
