The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:
Ensuring Somers remains a great place to live. I plan to focus on economic development, sound management, and setting high expectations and increasing community engagement.
Critical differences between me and my opponents:
I grew up in Somers and have chosen to raise my family here. I recently retired as a command level officer with the Vernon Police Department and now serve as the Director of Business and Finance for a local school district. I have served on the Somers Board of Finance and am an honorary member of the Somers Fire Department. I believe strongly in community focused government that provides maximum return to taxpayers.
Accomplishments:
My leadership on the Somers Board of Finance and ability to work across boards to make Somers a better place. I have worked hard to make sure our government is transparent and responsive to those we serve.
Other issues:
I believe all public meetings should allow for public comment. Our current board of selectmen meetings do not have public comment and this is unacceptable.
I believe in pursuing additional shared services between the town and board of education particularly in areas such as information technology, maintenance, Human Resources, and financial management and human services. These shared services provide a higher level of service and better value to our taxpayers. Somers must also increase regional collaborations with other communities such as joining a health district and pursuing other strategic opportunities.
