ELLINGTON, CT — The 2023 municipal election season is heating up in Ellington, and there are plenty of races with candidates eager to serve in elected office.

Ellington-Somers Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as Election Day draws near.

Education: BS & MS in Education - Central Connecticut State College

What is your occupation? Retired teacher

Does anyone in your family work in politics or government? No

Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective? Served eight terms on the Board of Selectmen

Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?

As a lifelong resident of Ellington I plan to continue to work in the best interests of the Ellington residents, its youth and seniors, and its businesses making it a safe and desirable place to make it our home.

The encouragement of town wide volunteers to preserve the valued programs and services that have made Ellington what it is today.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

I believe my lifelong experiences in Ellington and past terms on the Board of Selectmen provide me with a valuable perspective of the community.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

Reasonable approach to meet the operational and Capital Improvement needs of the community and sound fiscal management of the tax dollars.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

My past experience on the Board of Selectmen and over 50 years of experience in Emergency Services.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

When an issue comes up, step back, analyze all aspects of the issue, pros and cons, and reach a position that best serves the needs of the citizens.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

As a lifelong resident and graduate of the Ellington Public Schools, and with over 50 years of volunteer Emergency Services in Ellington, I believe I can continue to represent the interests of the Ellington citizens on the Board of Selectmen.
