Ellington Celebrates Earth Day In A Big Way
Earth Day Clean-Up, Shred It, clothing-household goods-bottle and can collection, 70 vendors, kids activities, food, entertainment and more

After a two-year COVID hiatus, The Town of Ellington is sponsoring an Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 23rd from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the center of town. Highlights will feature a Shred-It truck, “Earth Day Clean Up”, used book sale, clothing/household goods collection, bottle and can drive, tree planting ceremony and over 50 vendors along with live entertainment, refreshments, games, and educational activities and exhibits.
Residents are encouraged to participate in “ Earth Day Clean Up” by collecting roadside litter in their neighborhoods or favorite Ellington school or park. Trash bags can be obtained at the Town Hall, Public Works, Hall Memorial Library and the Senior Center from now until the day of the event. A dumpster will be provided on the day of the festivities in the parking lot of the Congregational Church for collected trash. Please separate any returnable bottles and cans in a separate bag. Cub Scout Pack 96 will be holding a bottle and can drive at the same location.
A ‘Shred-It Truck’ will be collecting up to two boxes of paper per person for shredding from 10 am to 1 pm in the Congregational Church parking lot.

Earthlight Technologies is providing a truck for the collection of used clothing, textiles and small household items. Please limit household items to one box and two bags of clothing per household
The Nellie McKnight Museumat 70 Main Street will feature the Grand Opening of a new photo exhibit, “A Historical Survey of Early Ellington,” and the newly renovated Farm Exhibit and the Vintage Wares Barn. Nellie’s Mercantile will be open during the event with free hands-on activities for children. The Hall Memorial Library will be hosting a used book sale during the day.

A tree-planting ceremony will take place at noon in front of the newly-renovated Hall Memorial front lawn.
