Ellington Crash Leads To Weapons Charge For Stafford Man

A Stafford man was charged after a crash in Ellington, state police said.

ELLINGTON, CT — A Stafford man is facing three motor vehicle charges — and a weapons charge — after a Saturday crash in Ellington, state police said.

The accident took place at 4:20 p.m. on Sandy Beach Road, according to state police. Sandy Beach Road is state Route 140.

A report indicates that Patrick Devlin Cannon, 22, of Stafford, was driving a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup west on Sandy Beach Road near Jacobs Hill Road when the truck veered into the opposite lane, hit a ditch, veered back onto the road and struck a trailer being pulled by another Dodge pickup, according to a report.

Cannon was located several miles away and arrested, state police said. He was charged with evading responsibility, drunken driving (after failing sobriety tests) and failure to grant half a highway, according to a report.

State police found "an illegal Cheetah brand electronic defense weapon" in the truck and charged him for having an illegal weapon in a motor vehicle, a report indicates.

He is due in court on Aug. 12, state police said.
