Ellington DPW Directror Honored by American Public Works Association

ELLINGTON, CT - Ellington Public Works Director Timothy Webb, has been named the 2016 American Public Works Association New England Chapter Member of the Year.

First Selectman Lori Spielman made the announcement Wednesday.

The town issued the following news release on the award:

Timothy Webb began his career in public works in 1978 as a lab technician at the Water Pollution Control Plant.

Mr. Webb’s mentor, New England Chapter APWA past-President, Roger Mullins, was quick to notice Mr. Webb’s potential and he was promoted to Deputy Director and then Acting Director. Mr. Mullins, has since passed away. However his vision, inspiration and encouragement resulted in a passionate, professional and dedicated Public Works Director who works tirelessly for the Town of Ellington and the New England Chapter of the APWA where he currently serves as Chairman of the Finance Committee and as 2nd Vice President.

Mr. Webb successfully co-hosted the 2016 National Snow and Ice Conference in Hartford, and was awarded the Governor’s “Bring It Home Award” for his efforts to bring business to Hartford. Mr. Webb has been an active and outspoken member and leader on the Board of Directors of the APWA, always standing up for what is best for the Chapter.

Mr. Webb then went on to work in Mansfield as the Superintendent of Public Works. In 2004, he was named Public Works Director in Coventry. In August of 2011, Ellington was fortunate to name Mr. Webb’s as the Director of Public Works. Under Mr. Webb’s leadership, the Public Works Department has worked diligently and innovatively to advance the practice of design, construction, maintenance, administration and operation of public works facilities and services in the Town of Ellington.

As Director of Public Works, Mr. Webb’s professional approach and his obvious concern for the safety and performance of his department members demonstrate that he is a very effective leader and an asset to the Town of Ellington.
