Ellington High School Graduates 186 Seniors

Prevalent in the thoughts of graduating seniors from Ellington High School Friday was their classmate, Troy Russell.

Russell broke his neck in a diving accident last August, but was present in the gymnasium to watch 186 of his classmates receive their diplomas.

"This class shares a bond like no other - the camaraderie of the student body," valedictorian Andrew Cohen said.

Principal Neil Rinaldi said this year's class accomplished something no other had done before. With a goal of 6,000 community service hours, the class far surpassed that mark with nearly 10,000.

Among the graduates were exchange students from Thailand, Japan and Switzerland, marking the 100th exchange student in school history.
