Ellington Historical Society Hosts Annual Fall Festival
Free pumpkin and cookie decorating, face painting, and kids' games activities. Pre-Holiday Mercantile Sale and a visit from Big Foot.
Ellington, CT – The Ellington Historical Society invites families to join in the fun at the annual Fall Festival at the Nellie McKnight Museum, 70 Main Street, on Saturday, October 12th, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, offering a day of seasonal festivities and activities for all ages.
Local organizations will be on hand to provide a variety of free activities for kids, including pumpkin decorating, cookie decorating, a scavenger hunt, and more. In a special surprise, Big Foot will appear, marking the first time the legendary figure has been spotted in Ellington in 42 years—an exciting moment for local lore enthusiasts and curious attendees alike.
Adults are invited to take advantage of the pre-holiday “overstalk” sale at the museum’s mercantile, where 2023 items will be sold at drastically reduced prices. In preparation for the upcoming season, the mercantile has also been stocked with fresh new items for 2024, offering a chance to get a head start on holiday shopping.

The 2024 exhibit It Happened in Ellington will open for history lovers, along with the Farm Exhibit and House Museum, which will be available for touring throughout the day. This is a great opportunity to explore Ellington’s rich agricultural history and learn more about the town’s unique past.
