ENFIELD, CT — An Ellington man arrested Monday night on criminal trespass and harassment charges wound up returning to the victim's home shortly thereafter in violation of a restraining order, resulting in an additional eight charges being filed against him.

Around 8:55 p.m. Monday, Leonard Wilson, 70, was charged with second-degree breach of peace, second-degree harassment and third-degree criminal trespass. Upon his release, Enfield police informed him of a no-trespass order at the woman's home, which he said he understood and promised he would not contact the victim, Police Chief Alaric Fox said.

Instead of returning to his home, Wilson allegedly returned to the woman's residence around 1:55 a.m., in violation of a restraining order, and awakened her by yelling and calling her a variety of unpleasant names, Fox said.

The woman claims Wilson went to his car and began rummaging around inside it, as if searching for keys or a garage door opener. He then went to her vehicle and took a new hammer from it, then continued yelling at her as he smashed a glass window. When the woman said she was calling the police, wilson returned to his car and left the scene, Fox said.

Police broadcast a description of wilson and his car to surrounding law enforcement agencies, and a state trooper observed him pulling into the driveway of an Ellington apartment complex. He was detained, and Enfield police arrive to continue questioning him. When asked about the hammer, Wilson admitted it was in his car, Fox said.

Wilson is being held in lieu of $60,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear Oct. 8 in Enfield Superior Court.
