Ellington Obituary: Betty Bergstrom, 91

Condolences to her family and friends.

Betty Jane (Pease) Bergstrom, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in New Britain.

Betty grew up on her parents' farm in Ellington with her brother, Roger (Charlotte), her father, Edgar Carlton Pease, and her mother, Rachel (Sloan) Pease. Betty leaves her beloved children, Dennis Alan Bergstrom of New Britain, and Karen Rae Bergstrom of Boynton Beach, FL, as well as Bernie Jaworski, Karen's significant other. They, along with Betty's best friend, Georgette Coutu, and her son, David, will dearly miss her every day.

All who knew Betty knew her as a delightful and loving woman who laughed often, and loved her pets with a passion. Among other activities, Betty was a member of Ellington Congregational Church for over 75 years, Ellington Grange #46 for over 60 years (having served as Master for two years), and she served as a member of the Ellington Board of Appeals for eight years.

Most significant in Betty's life was the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 62, which she joined in 1968 as a result of her son's military service in Viet Nam. She was Unit 62's President for several years and held various offices in District 4 and in the Department of Connecticut of which she was President in 1991 to 1992.

There will be no calling hours and burial will be in Ellington Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
