Ellington Obituary: Edwin Hoffman, 93

Edwin A. Hoffman, 93, son of Alfred Y. and Emma Bossart Hoffman, died Monday evening, December 4, 2017 at his home on Hoffman Road in Ellington.

He was born on December 30, 1923 on the Hoffman Farm that his grandfather and grandmother, Fritz & Eliza Hoffman purchased in 1900 after immigrating from Switzerland in 1895. He was predeceased by his beloved helpmate Elsa Aberle and a son, Bruce Edwin Hoffman.

Edwin leaves four sons, Mark & Luella Hoffman, Steven & Joan Hoffman, Michael & Luann Hoffman and Arlo & Lynn Hoffman all of Ellington and one sister Lois Klotzle of Altadena, CA, two sisters-in-law, Louise Fehr of Roanoke, Il, and Martha Luginbuhl, of Ellington. He also leaves 19 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren.

Edwin owned and operated the Hoffman dairy farm in partnership with his brother Walter from 1944 to 1964 and was active in many farm organizations. He then worked as an Insurance Agent and Estate Planner from 1964 to 1984 for Farm Family Co, Conn General Life and Cigna Insurance Co. He then retired back to the farm. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Ellington for 71 years.

Calling hours will be Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church, 34 Middle Butcher Road, Ellington. Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 8, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church with burial immediately following at the Ellington Center Cemetery.
