Ellington Obituary: Irene Suchecki-Gates, 79

Condolences to her family and friends.

And in true, Irene Suchecki-Gates fashion she came and went on her own terms. Irene passed away quickly and peacefully on Thursday, December 31, 2015 in the early hours surrounded by her family.

Irene was born on November 21, 1936 in Hartford. She lived in Ellington with her beloved husband Ronald whom she married 57 years ago. Irene was the mother of three daughters, Debi, Dorene and Diane. Irene leaves her daughter Debi and Husband Peter Thompson of Ellington and their children Laura and Drew Thompson of Raleigh, North Carolina; Dorene Gates and her partner John Barone of Vernon; Diane Gates-Daigle and her husband Steven of Columbia, CT and their two children Alexandra and Nicholas Daigle. Irene also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Irene’s most beloved treasures in life were her family and friends.

She enjoyed both cooking and baking for her family and friends. She never forgot a birthday or special event in someone’s life. She had the unique ability to make others feel welcomed and loved; always considerate of friends and family. Irene worked for many years for Standard Register. Upon her retirement she loved to travel and visit the casinos. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and UConn women’s basketball team.

Irene was the last surviving member of the Alexander Suchecki, Sr. family. Her father Alexander, mother Josephine and siblings, Alexander. Jr., Eleanor, Barbara and Geraldine predeceased her.

Relatives and friends may join the family on Sunday, January 3, 2016 from 4 – 7 pm at Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St, Rockville. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, January 4, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph’s Church, Rockville. (Please meet at church). Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Rockville.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Joseph’s Church or the American Cancer Society.
