Ellington Obituary: JoAnn Aucter, 73

Condolences to her family and friends.

JoAnn (Thomas) Aucter, 73, of Ellington, beloved wife of 54 years to Clifford Aucter, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Manchester Memorial Hospital with her family and friends at her side.

Born in Fancy Farm, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Joseph and Edith (Gibson), she grew up and lived in Fancy Farm, KY and lived in Trenton, NJ before moving to Ellington 48 years ago. Prior to her retirement in 1995, JoAnn was as a contract negotiator for the Aetna Insurance Company for 28 years. She was a communicant of St. Bernard Church in Rockville, and she also participated in the church Bible Study and Prayer Shawl Ministry. She loved to travel and read. JoAnn was a member of the Women, Wine and Words Book Club, the Ellington Recreation Hiking Club, and the Gourmet Dinner Group. She loved to cook and have friends over for dinner.

She has a special place in her heart for her many special little friends. JoAnn was a very talented quilter who enjoyed making quilts and other sewed items for her family and friends. She always had a smile and was fun to be around.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three brothers, Robert Thomas and his wife Teresa of Lexington, KY, Laddie Thomas and his wife Judy of Fancy Farm, KY, and Fred Thomas and his wife Joy of Murray, KY; three sisters, Peggy Riley and her husband Robert of Mayfield, KY, Angela Thomas of Murray, KY, and Teresa Thomas of Nashville, TN; her best friend who was like a sister, Sharon Daniel of Ellington, and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard Church, 25 St. Bernard Terrace, Rockville. Interment will follow in Ellington Cemetery.
