Ellington Obituary: Jon Gilluly, 70

Condolences to his family and friends.

Jon T. Gilluly, 70, of Vernon, beloved husband of Thia (White) Gilluly, died peacefully on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Rockville Hospital, surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 5, 1945 in Central Falls, RI, son of the late Edward and Margaret (Keane) Gilluly. Jon was a graduate of Westerly High School and went on to graduate from Bryant College. He was married to Thia White in 1967 and together they settled in Vernon in the late 70’s. Jon was a parishioner of St. Bernard Church in Rockville. He owned and operated “The Wooden Chest” a handcrafted furniture store in Ellington with his wife and also worked in painting & home improvements and ended his working career in sales. Jon coached Vernon Little League when his children were young and was an avid golfer. He was a longtime friend of Bill W and helped countless people throughout the years.

Along with his wife Thia of over 48 he leaves his daughter, Heather Gilluly and her husband Gene Stabile of Northford; his son, Christopher Gilluly and his wife Nancy of Stafford; his brother, Paul Gilluly of Westerly, RI; his sister, Kathy Medeiros of Hope Valley, RI; two grandsons, Ryan and Shane and his sisters-in-law, Priscilla Gilluly of Westerly, RI and Pamela White of Terryville. He was predeceased by his brother Edward Gilluly III.

His family will receive friends on Sunday, December 20, 2015 from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Ladd Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd., Vernon. Family and friends may gather on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 9 a.m., at the funeral home; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Bernard Church in Rockville. Burial will be St. Bernard Cemetery in Rockville.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army P.O. Box 628, Hartford, CT 06103 and / or Paralyzed Veterans of America PVA: Donation Processing Center 7 Mill Brook Rd Wilton, NH 03086.
