Ellington Obituary: Richard Streib, 84

Condolences to his family and friends.

Richard “Richie” Albrecht Streib died peacefully on Sunday morning, August 19, 2018. He was 84.

Richie was born to Albrecht and Hedwig (Holzer) Streib on April 6, 1934, in Port Jefferson, New York. After graduating Port Jefferson High School, he entered the Air Force where he served as a pilot on the KC-97 refueling tanker during the Korean War.

Richie married the love of his life, Marion (Rieg) Streib in 1957. After his service, he completed his degree in aeronautical engineering at New York University. They raised their family in Ellington.

A life-long aviation enthusiast, he made a career at Pratt & Whitney where he invented and patented several aircraft-engine components. Later, he sold aircraft engines around the world.

Richie was a happy man and made people smile. He loved family and friends, music, a glass of wine, Money Maker cigars, and traveling, having visited six of the seven continents. One of the highlights of his travels was an audience he and Marion had with Mother Teresa in India. Marion passed away in 2003.

He is survived by his Number One Daughter, Karen Streib, his son Keith Streib and wife Lisa; five grandchildren, Matthew, Phillip and wife Jessica, and Dustin Luginbuhl, and Ben and Erika Streib; and two great-granddaughters, Eleanor and Adelyn. Richie is also survived by his sister, Lorraine Nolte and her family, and a close family friend, Siv Harvey.

Funeral services will be private.
