Ellington Obituary: Thomas Kalmanidis, 25

Condolences to his family and friends.

Thomas “Tommy” P. Kalmanidis, 25, of Broad Brook, passed away unexpectedly in Boston, on Thursday, August 31, 2017.

Tom was born at Rockville Hospital on January 2, 1992, to Nick Kalmanidis of Greece and Brenda (Bidwell) Crockett of Ellington. Tom spent his first 10 years growing up in Ellington before moving to Broad Brook. He was incredible at BMX biking and was instrumental in helping start and design the East Windsor BMX Skate Park with a group of his peers.

Aside from his BMX passion, he enjoyed the simplicity of company who genuinely enjoyed being with him and dirt bikes and quads in his earlier days. He was a humble, loving soul with a heart of solid gold. He loved his family and they cherished him.

Tom is survived by his loving mother, Brenda Crockett and stepfather Dave Crockett, of Broad Brook; father Nick Kalmanidis, of Greece; brother Nick Kalmanidis of Bridgeport; sister and very best friend Nicole Kalmanidis, of Boston, two younger sisters who he adored, Rebecca Crockett and Allyson Crockett of Broad Brook, and Kristina Kalmanidis Peregoy of Virginia; grandparents Naziko Kalmanidis and Thomas and Sandra Crockett; and numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his devoted grandparents, George and Grace Bidwell; Aunt Doreen and Uncle George.

Memorial Calling Hours are being held at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, (Route 83) Vernon on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 5 - 8. A Memorial service is scheduled from 10 am on Saturday, September 9, 2017 directly at Ellington Baptist Church, 264 Pinney Street, Ellington. Burial will follow at Ellington Center Cemetery.
