
William “Billy” James Scully, 64, of Vernon, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, October 27, 2017, at Manchester Memorial Hospital.
Born in Hartford, the son of the late Louis and Dolores (Cioto) Scully, he grew up and lived in Ellington and Maine before moving to Vernon five years ago. He was a graduate of Ellington High School, Class of 1971.
After graduating high school, Billy joined the U. S. Marine Corps. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California and worked as a jet engine mechanic, which he reveled in. He retired from the Marine Corps with a disability as a sergeant.

He took great delight in spending time with his siblings, and all his nieces and nephews. Billy was an avid bowler, bingo player and devoted Catholic. He relished in traveling with friends and family and was an excellent artist and craftsman.
He cherished his companionship with the late Judy Howard of Biddeford, Maine, and spending time with his good friend Alberta Ames. He will be missed by his many cousins, and by all who knew him, for he was a kind, fun-loving and gentle person.

He will be deeply missed by his siblings, Lorraine (Bill) Magnotta, Patty (Doug) Grant, and Cheryl (Tom) Bennett; his sister-in-law, Adelle Scully; his nieces and nephews, Timothy and Melenie Magnotta, Melissa and Kevin McKee, Brian and Donna Magnotta, Susan, Michael, Jennifer Bennett, William Grant, Matthew Scully and Amber Waite; his great nieces and nephews, Dylan and Colin McKee, Celia, Nina and Ryan Magnotta, Hunter, Louis and Daniel Scully. He was predeceased by his brother, Daniel Scully.
Billy’s family would like to thank all the staff of the Vernon Visiting Nurses for the wonderful care that they provided.
His family will receive friends for calling hours on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 10 a.m. directly at St. James Church, 896 Main Street, Manchester. Burial will follow in Ellington Center Cemetery with military honors.
