Ellington Seeks Nominees For Wall Of Honor

ELLINGTON, CT — The town's top elected board is seeking nominations for, perhaps, the town's top civic honor, the Ellington Wall of Honor.

Nominee submissions are due July 1.

The Wall of Honor, located in Arbor Park (Main Street), recognizes deserving citizens for
exceptional contributions to the Town of Ellington.

To make a nomination, contact the Ellington First Selectman’s Office at 860-870-3100 for an application, or download the application from the town's website, ellington-ct.gov; select "Our Community" and then "Wall of Honor." People can also submit a nomination online.

Note that if you submitted an application in the previous three years, it will be included in the pool of current candidates.

The Elllington Board of Selectmen Town Policies Committee will review the applications and may recommend a recipient to selectmen at their July 11 meeting.

If a recipient is chosen, his/her name will be engraved on the Wall of Honor and unveiled at a public ceremony on Sept. 10 at 4 p.m., just prior to the fire department’s parade.

Currently, 19 names have been put on the Wall of Honor, which dates back to 2001. The 2021 Ellington Wall of Honor recipient was Mary A. Miller, who was first selectman in Ellington from 1979-89.

She was chosen for her "innumerable contributions and immeasurable devotion to Ellington," according to a town release on the monument.
