Ellington, Somers to Open Softball Tournaments With Road Games

ELLINGTON-SOMERS, CT — Looking to end a 34-year dry spell, the Ellington High School softball team begins its quest for a Class M state championship Tuesday.

The 18th-seeded Knights, which won four Class S titles between 1977 and 1984, will open the tournament with a game at No. 15 Wolcott Tech, as pairings were announced Friday morning.

Somers is also seeded No. 18, in Class S, and will travel to No. 15 Windham on Tuesday. The Spartans have never won a state softball title.

Top seeds in the four divisions are Southington (LL), Masuk (L), Northwestern Regional (M) and Stafford (S).
