Ellington Volunteer Ambulance Corps Honors Members At Annual Awards Banquet

The organization recognized service milestones and top contributors during a January ceremony in Ellington.

ELLINGTON, CT — Members of the Ellington Volunteer Ambulance Corps gathered with guests earlier this month to recognize service milestones and annual award recipients during the organization’s yearly banquet.

The event was held Saturday, Jan. 17, from 5 to 9 p.m. at The Nutmeg, where members and guests shared a meal and celebrated the corps’ work over the past year.

Service and achievement awards were presented to several members. Deputy Chief Nicole Caron was recognized for five years of service. EMT April Phelps and EMT Noah Welti each received awards for 10 years of service. EMT Dan Flanagan was honored for 20 years of service. EMT Deborah Landry-Schiessl was named Paid Staff Member of the Year, and EMT Jim O’Donnell was named Volunteer Member of the Year.

EVAC leadership also highlighted accomplishments from the past year. EVAC President Peter Hany Sr. offered a recap of 2025, citing the dedication and efforts of members throughout the year.

Community partners and local agencies attended the ceremony, including members of Ellington Rescue Post 512, representatives from the Town of Ellington administrative offices, the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department, and the Crystal Lake Volunteer Fire Department.

The organization thanked the community for its continued support and said it looks ahead to serving Ellington in 2026 and beyond.
