Officials Investigating 'Suspicious' Fire that Ripped Through 6 Acres at Shenipsit State Forest in Ellington

Firefighters from multiple departments responded to the brush fire on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters extinguished a brush fire that ripped through 6 acres of land on Ellington’s Soapstone Mountain by 5:15 p.m. on Monday and officials are investigating the blaze that has been deemed “suspicious,” according to NBC Connecticut.

Firefighters from multiple departments, including Ellington, Somers and Tolland, responded to the fire that officials told NBC included part of Shenipsit State Forest and the other half is private property.

Officials also told NBC that it appears someone was living in the forest.

There were no injuries and no buildings were threatened by the fire.
