Fall Practice Begins: Ellington/Somers Team Title Histories, Schedules

A look at the fall state title histories for Ellington and Somers high school teams, plus the 2022 schedules for Knight and Spartan squads.

ELLINGTON-SOMERS, CT — Classes have resumed at many high schools across Connecticut, and practice has begun for fall sports, with numerous teams setting out on their quests for league and state championships.

Among schools in Patch communities in Hartford and Tolland counties, Glastonbury is the all-time leader with 40 fall team championships, followed by Farmington (36), Granby Memorial (33), E.O. Smith (30) and Manchester (29).

Area schools looking to repeat their 2021 state titles are Hall boys cross country (Class LL) and girls golf (Div. I), Avon boys cross country (MM), Glastonbury girls cross country (LL), Somers girls cross country (S), Farmington boys soccer (LL), Wethersfield boys soccer (L) and RHAM girls volleyball (L).

Ellington High School's 13 fall state titles date back to 1971, while Somers has won seven state championships since 2004.
