Former Ellington Assistant Fire Chief Dies

The firefighter joined the department in 1962 and held several leadership positions during more than six decades of service.

ELLINGTON, CT — Daniel Connors, a life member and former assistant chief of the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department, died Tuesday at the age of 85.

Connors joined the department in March 1962. He served as a lieutenant, second assistant chief and first assistant chief between 1971 and 1978, according to the department.

“Our thoughts are with Chief Connors’ family and friends in this difficult time,” the department wrote while announcing his death.

Connors was born Jan. 19, 1941, in Rockville to Charles and Margaret “Toddy” Connors. He died peacefully with his family by his side, according to his obituary.

He leaves four daughters, Melinda “Mindy” Connors, Karen Violette, Marykate Royce and Lisa Luetjen; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
