Friday Morning Fire Damages Somers Home

A 2-alarm fire wrecked a portion of a home in Somers early Friday.

SOMERS, CT — A two-alarm fire early Friday morning left a portion of a Somers home in shambles.

The fire broke out at 2:04 a.m. at 26 Pheasant Run, according to fire officials.

The initial call indicated a shed in close proximity to the main residence was on fire, but it soon spread to the home and firefighters were met with heavy smoke showing from the rear when they arrived, officials said.

Crews began extinguishing the fire from the exterior of the residence, while other crews went inside to gain better access to the attic, officials said.

The fire was quickly knocked down, but extensive damage to the upper floor and garage could be seen from the road.

No injuries were reported.

The scene was cleared at about 5:30 a.m., officials said.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Somers fire marshal.

In addition to the Somers Fire Department, crews from the Hazardville Fire District, West Stafford Fire Department, Crystal Lake Fire Department and the Ambulance Service of Manchester (Johnson Hospital Paramedic) went to the scene on the first alarm and crews from the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department, Shaker Pines Fire Department and East Longmeadow Fire Department were also called while the Enfield Fire Department covered regular calls.

The home, a 3,225 square-foot, 10-room Colonial, was built in 2004, according to the Somers assessor's office. It sits on .99 acres. Pheasant Run is a semicircular street of eight homes off Pond Lane.
