Great Accomplishments By Ellington/Somers College Students: 2023-24

ELLINGTON-SOMERS, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire. More great feats will be noted as they are received in the coming weeks.

Bob Jones University, Greenville SC

• Paul Landry, a senior political science major from Somers, was among approximately 800 Bob Jones University students named to the fall 2023 Dean's List. The Dean's List recognizes students who earn a 3.00-3.74 grade point average during the semester.

Fordham University, New York NY

• Rosemary Gaidos of Ellington was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Gaidos is among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.

Hofstra University, Hempstead NY

• Katherine Adams of Ellington excelled during the fall 2023 semester at Hofstra, achieving a GPA of at least 3.5 to earn a spot on the Dean's List. Katherine's major is music business.

Southern New Hampshire University, Manchester NH

• Rhapsody Arlen of Somers and Cassandra Keilty of Ellington were named to the fall 2023 President's List. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above for the reporting term are named to the President's List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired 8-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring, and summer.
• Derek Bolinger of Ellington has been named to the fall 2023 Dean's List. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.500 to 3.699 for the reporting term are named to the Dean's List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired 8-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring, and summer.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

• Lindsay Masamery, a resident of Somers and a member of the class of 2025 majoring in biomedical engineering at WPI, was a member of a student team that recently completed an intense research project titled Designing an Inclusive and Accessible Sensory Space. At WPI, all undergraduates are required to complete a research-driven, professional-level project that applies science and technology that addresses an important societal need or issue. About two-thirds of students complete a project at one of the university's 50-plus off-campus project centers, which are located around the world.
