Joan Formeister: Candidate Seeking 5th term on Somers Board of Education

Joan Formeister is seeking her 5th term on the Board of Education.

After college, nursing school, and working at Manchester Memorial Hospital, Joan and her husband Frank moved to Somers thirty years ago and raised four children, all of them successful graduates of Somers High. Joan has been on the Board of Education for 16 years, has worked on every committee, and has served as vice-Chair, Chair of Long Range Planning, and Chair of the Curriculum Committee for most of her tenure. She states this has been a rewarding experience and is proud to see the district moving forward and excelling in many ways, with beautiful, up-to-date and secure buildings, state of the art technology, and an excellent staff. Positive changes have occurred in all three schools over the years, with many accolades and distinctions earned. Budget restrictions and unfunded state mandates always provide challenges, but the Board has been able to provide quality education for all students.

Joan has also served for twenty-three years on the Conservation and Inland Wetlands Commission, chairing it for several years, the Somers Alliance for Youth, Republican Town Committee, as secretary of the School Building Committee for seven years, and is presently a trustee at her church.

If re-elected, Joan will continue to work with the superintendent and administrators to ensure the Somers schools meet the needs of all children.

Re-Elect Joan to the Somers School Board on Nov. 5th!
