License Plate Reader Snags Man With Unreturned Rental Truck

The man was coming out of a pawn shop when arrested, state police said.

STAFFORD, CT — State police said a Monson, MA, man is facing a second-degree larceny charge after getting caught with a rental truck he never returned.

State police said 31-year-old Adam McGrath was arrested on Oct. 15.

While on routine patrol neat the Simon Says Pawn shop, a trooper's license plate reader detected a UHaul box truck that had been reported stolen, according to an arrest report.

Police said they then discovered McGrath had contracted the truck for a one-day rental in May and never returned it.

A trooper then saw McGrath enter the truck and arrested him, according to a report.
