Update: Injured Woman Identified
The Ellington woman was found at the base of the Soapstone Mountain observation tower on Thursday.

Update, Friday, 3 p.m.
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) said today that the woman found injured Thursday afternoon at Soapstone Mountain, Somers, was Karen Wischow, 50, of Ellington.
A spokeswoman for Hartford Hospital said she is in stable condition.

Update, 2:30 p.m.
A 50-year-old Ellington woman was transported to Hartford Hospital with critical injuries after being found semi-conscious early this afternoon at the base of the observation tower on Soapstone Mountain, Somers, according to CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Environmental Conservation (ENCon) Police.

The woman was transported by local ambulance to Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford and was then taken by LifeStar helicopter to Hartford Hospital, EnCon Police said.
A hiker saw the woman at the base of the observation tower at around noon time and alerted State Police Troop C. Troop C notified EnCon Police who responded to the call. Soapstone mountain is located within Shenipsit State Forest, which is land under the jurisdiction of DEEP.

LifeStar is responding to Shenipsit State Forest after a woman fell from the observation tower, NBC Connecticut reports.
The woman fell 25 feet and was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
