Local Business Making All-Natural Soaps and More

Toes to Nose Soaps in Ellington makes soaps, lip balms, and bath fizzies, and does not use any artificial ingredients.

Are you looking for all-natural soaps and lip balms? Well, you’re in luck! You don’t have to go far because in Ellington is a small business that makes these products.

Owner Marie Bedor has been making soap – at home in her kitchen – for about five years. She said that her daughter gave her her first homemade soap and she liked it so much that she decided to learn to make it herself – rather than driving far and wide to buy it.

“Making soap gives me the opportunity to create and experiment,” she said. “It takes math, chemistry, and computer skills – all things that I love.”

The soap is all-natural and does not contain any artificial ingredients.

Bedor said that there are certain scents that are always popular, such as lavender, vanilla, and almond. When it comes to deciding what she’s going to make, she says she scans the list of scents from certain suppliers and buys what sounds interesting.

“Some become favorites with my customers, such as cucumber melon and oatmeal milk and honey, and I try to keep a steady supply of them,” she said. “Some scents are seasonal, such as pumpkin spice, and some are year round. Customers asked for lilac so I started making that and found that I liked it and it sold well.”

For her lip balms, she does not use petroleum products, she uses beeswax, and also makes one with a plant based wax for her Vegan customers.

Bedor says that she also makes “bath fizzies” and her newest product she calls a “foot fizzie” for people who like to soak their feet.

Bedor, who grew up in Ellington, graduated from , and moved back into town 30 years ago, sells her products at the , craft and vendor fairs, and online at toestonosesoaps.com.
