Locals Shut Out at Travelers Championship Qualifier in Ellington

ELLINGTON, CT — License plates from Florida, Arizona, Vermont, Texas and numerous other states dotted the parking lot at Ellington Ridge Country Club Monday morning, as 61 golfers took a shot at earning one of the final four spots in this week's PGA TOUR event in Cromwell, the Travelers Championship.

On a blistering hot day in northern Connecticut, Chase Seiffert of Panama City, Fla. was equally on fire, posting a 30 on the back nine en route to a 9-under par 63 to claim medalist honors and a spot in the $7 million Travelers Championship.

Seiffert carded eight birdies and eagled the par-5 13th to finish three strokes ahead of four other players, who went to a playoff to determine the final three slots.

Current or former PGA TOUR players James Driscoll, Andrew Svoboda and Rick Lamb prevailed in the playoff, leaving Stamford resident Peter Bello as the odd man out.

Two other Connecticut entrants, Jason Thresher of West Suffield and Zach Zaback of Farmington, finished under par. Playing in the same threesome, they each fired a 2-under par 70. Five other Connecticut residents finished at even-par 72.
