Longtime Ellington Rec Director Dies Suddenly
The longtime Ellington parks and recreation director died suddenly Tuesday, town officials said.

ELLINGTON, CT - Longtime Ellington recreation director Robert Tedford died suddenly Tuesday, town officials said.
First Selectman Lori Spielman made a formal the announcement Tuesday afternoon:
It is with great sadness that I inform our residents that Robert Tedford, passed away suddenly today.
Bob served the citizens of Ellington as the Director of Recreation for 43 years.
Bob made numerous contributions to the Town of Ellington. To name a few, he was
instrumental in the expansion of Brookside Park and the development of Arbor Park, the tennis courts at Schwartz field and the Pinney Street playing fields. He started the Summer Concerts series, community gardens at the Batz Property and the holiday memorial tournaments in honor of departed residents.
Bob worked tirelessly to organize the day-to-day recreation programs, overseeing a large range of youth and adult programs, volunteers and staff members. Bob provided outstanding service to the citizens of Ellington by his personal dedication to the physical health and well-being of all residents of Ellington.
We offer our deepest sympathy to his family. He will be remembered fondly as a dedicated and caring citizen, Town Official and friend.
