Lori Hopkins-Cavanagh to Hold Pre-Debate Liberty Rally Tuesday

Hopkins-Cavanagh is the Republican candidate for U.S. Congress in Connecticut's 2nd District, which includes Ellington and Somers.

The following is a submitted press release from Lori Hopkins-Cavanagh’s campaign:

This week, the Republican candidate for U.S. Congress in Eastern Connecticut’s 2nd District, Lori Hopkins-Cavanagh, announced a pre-debate Liberty Rally in New London. It is set to precede a debate with incumbent Joe Courtney at the Garde Arts Center in New London at 8 p.m. on Oct. 14. The rally, to be held just outside, will begin at 5 p.m. and feature notable guest speakers from across the state. No tickets are necessary, as both the rally and debate are free of charge.

With only two debates scheduled and the Courtney campaign having declined all other requests, including those from the League of Women Voters, Lee Elci, and a plethora of radio stations, candidate Hopkins-Cavanagh plans to make this most of this opportunity at her hometown debate, sponsored by the New London Day, among others.

“We’re really excited about getting our message out in front of the voters and holding Congressman Courtney accountable for his voting record. With a traditionally low turnout for congressional debates, I wanted to do something to really get people excited, and we’re on track to do just that,” says Hopkins-Cavanagh.

The Liberty Rally will feature speakers including Martha Dean, former gubernatorial and AG candidate; Scott Wilson, President of CCDL; Regina Roundtree, Founder of CBRAC; Tom Sirard, Chairman of the Enfield Board of Education; and Sal Lilienthal, historian and former congressional candidate. “Dan Malloy and Joe Courtney have come together to spread their irresponsible tax-and-spend policies in both Hartford and Washington. It needs to stop. That’s really what this is all about,” says Hopkins-Cavanagh. The rally will include music and giveaways, and voters from across the district are set to attend.
