Man Accused of Choking, Assaulting Woman in Somers

The suspect was described as highly intoxicated when he was taken into custody Tuesday night.

SOMERS, CT - A Manchester man was arrested by state police Tuesday night after allegedly assaulting and choking a woman at a Somers residence.

Earl Edwards, 47, of 11 Knighton St., is charged with third-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, second-degree unlawful restraint and disorderly conduct.

Bond was set at $30,000.

A police report states troopers were called to a home on Main Street in Somers at 10:06 p.m. due to a report of a female screaming. Upon arrival at the scene, troopers learned the woman had been assaulted and choked, and the suspect, identified as Edwards, had left the scene on foot.

Edwards was located walking east on Route 190 and was taken into custody. He was described as being “highly intoxicated,” the police report says.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Rockville Superior Court.
