Man Accused of Stealing Tools from Somers Business

SOMERS — A Suffield man is facing a larceny charge for allegedly stealing tools from a former employer in Somers, according law enforcement and judicial system records.

Matthew Lavalley, 33, of Halladay Avenue, Suffield, surrendered on Thursday, police said. He was charged with third-degree larceny.

He is accused of pawning the items, state police said.

Investigators believe Lavalley spent over $1,500 in unauthorized purchases and pawned the tools he took from the shop.

He is also accused of unauthorized charges from a business account than ranged from from less than $100 to just less than $400 over a month's time in March and April, police said.

Items missing from the shop included an impact wrench and screwdriver, a tap-and-die threading set, a cordless impact gun, an arc welder and a saw.

The value of the tools is estimated at $5,900, according to the report.

The tools were pawned and sold out of a Springfield shop, police said.
